J2 dystopia where you have to pass a "citizenship" test if you want to be able to go to college, get a job, get married, etc. Those who don't pass the test are either sent to the millitary, a low-caste workforce that does the jobs nobody wants, or sent to space colonies and never heard from again. One passes the test, the other doesn't.
Oh man, SUCH a brilliant fic! (I'm not usually into space AUs, but this was awesome)
